Should You Get Your Own Web Site?

First you have to know what you want to do with your web site. Do you need your own domain name? Or would a free web site be enough to fill your needs.
If you are knowledgeable about HTML editing or any of the HTML editing programs - like Front Page - and you know where you want to go with your site I would recommend that you get your own domain name. You get much more server space and bandwidth. Your site looks more professional as "www.widgets.com" than "www.freewebsites/users/widgets.com". Search engines and affiliate marketers also take you more seriously. Some will not accept free web sites at all.

Even if you do not generate an income the learning experience in itself is valuable. Many web masters arent interested in making money with their site. They are happy to share their hobbies and interests online. However, if you are interested in making money with your web site there are a lot of different options open to you. It boils down to what you are interested in. All of us could be happier if we could make or enhance a living doing something that genuinely interests us.
